IDC DIVE Octo

Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI)

Once you are a PADI Assistant Instructor or are an instructor with an agency other than PADI, you can take the Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI) Course.

The PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI) course is the second part of the PADI Instructor Development Course (IDC). It’s where everything comes together — your dive skills, theory, teaching techniques, and confidence as a leader. If you’re already a PADI Assistant Instructor or an instructor with another diving federation (like SSI, CMAS, NAUI, RAID, etc.), this is your direct path to becoming a PADI Instructor.

We will prepare you to be a first class PADI Instructor.

During this part of the IDC, you will learn to manage and adapt the PADI system of diver education to individual student needs. And remember that you need to successfully complete the IE after attending the OWSI program to get certified as a PADI instructor.

Instructor Examination (IE)

After the IDC, PADI instructor candidates must attend and successfully complete a PADI Instructor Examination (IE). The IE is a two day exam in which candidates are evaluated on their diving knowledge and skills and ability to deliver teaching presentations in the classroom, confined water and open water settings.
